NOTICE: Our Submission Process Has Changed 〰️
Submission Guidelines
Publishing Rights: We seek First World Electronic Rights in English, Anthology Rights, and Worldwide Audio Rights. You’re essentially agreeing that your piece has not previously been published online or in print, that you will not reprint your piece in any format for a period of at least one year past publication of the Bizarrchitecture issue it appears in, that we may in the future include your piece in an anthology with your consent, and that we may reproduce your piece in audio format either as an accompaniment to the online issue or as part of a podcast series. For more information on publishing contracts, please see this resource. In the future, contracts may shift as we establish our sources of income and are able to offer compensation.
How To Submit:
To cover operating costs, Bizarrchitecture charges a $3 donation for a submission fee. However, if we respond to your submission within the same month (which we generally do), you may submit again without donating again. Also, our Patreon subscribers (starting at the $3/month tier) may submit without otherwise donating, as well as receiving other benefits. These fees help us to cover costs and work towards paying our writers.

Please send a screenshot/receipt of either your Patreon subscription or your Paypal donation, along with your submission, to bizarrchitecturemagazine@gmail.com
In the subject line, write GENRE / LAST NAME / TITLE (For example, FICTION / Smith / My Weird Story Title). Write your cover letter in the body of the email. Attach your submission to the email in .DOC, .DOCX, .RTF, or .ODT. All submissions sent without proof of donation/Patreon subscription will be returned unread.
What We're Looking For: We're seeking original, unpublished fiction, poetry, and non-fiction that either inhabits or is in conversation with the New Weird and its associated genres and/or thematic concerns. This includes Sci Fi, Experimental, Slipstream, Horror, and Eco-Fiction. Send us your weirdest writing, your writing about the body and the mind and the ways both might mutate. Send us pieces that leave us in a state of dissociation, awe, confusion, revulsion, excitement, fear, love, inexplicable laughter. Though primarily New Weird-focused, we also want to open our arms to work that doesn’t fit anywhere else, work that reflects the expression of your weird inner world. We want writing that commits to its strangeness, and leaves anything that doesn’t further that goal behind. (Please do not send revisions of pieces we have already declined unless you’ve gotten a specific ok from us to do so!)
Format: Please submit all fiction and non-fiction in Shunn Manuscript Format, modern or classic. Poetry formatting is up to the submitter. Please submit in .DOC, .DOCX, .RTF, or .ODT.
Length Limits: Flash Fiction (up to 1k words), Short Fiction (up to 5k words), Poetry (up to 3 poems), Articles/Essays (up to 2k words). Anything above these limits will be auto-rejected.
Content: We are particularly interested in work by queer people, women, people of color, and those from other groups historically underrepresented in literary and speculative publication. Do not send us work that is racist, homophobic, or otherwise supports/promotes hatred or bigotry of any kind. If you’re not sure, consider getting a second opinion first.
Simultaneous and Multiple Submissions: Simultaneous submissions are allowed provided we are notified immediately if the work is accepted elsewhere. Please only submit at most ONCE in each category, waiting until you've heard back from us before submitting again.
Response Time: We try to respond to all submissions within 2-3 months.
Cover Letters: Please include your name, the title of your piece, word count, and your publishing history, as well as any personal experience/education that could lend credibility to your piece (don't worry if you don't have this, but if you're writing a story set in a fine dining restaurant and you've worked in fine dining for years, we'd love to know!)
Goals: At this time Bizarrchitecture can not offer payment for accepted pieces. However, our goal is to offer initially an honorarium, followed by an SFWA semi-pro (.02-.05c per word) or pro-rated (.08c per word) pay rate, once our magazine has established a consistent stream of revenue that exceeds our operating costs, through a mix of submission fees, contests, issue sales, a Patreon, etc. Please bear with us as we figure that out! Currently, we’ve decided to charge $3 for submissions to our second issue, as well as starting a Patreon.
Queries: Feel free to query after 3 months if we haven’t responded to you by then.
